Free for Mac · Apple silicon · Codex
Makoda turns the Codex you already pay for into a local API for development and testing. One download, one paste into your coding agent.
Uses your plan's normal limits. Not affiliated with OpenAI.

How it works
Makoda lives in your menu bar and checks that Codex is installed and signed in with ChatGPT.
Click Start. Create an integration for your project and pick the model and reasoning effort.
Copy the setup prompt into Codex, Claude Code or Cursor. It wires Makoda in as a dev-only provider.
Built for the dev loop
Listens on 127.0.0.1. Nothing on your network or the internet can reach it.
Ask for an exact model and reasoning level. Makoda reports what actually ran.
Idempotency keys mean a dropped connection never runs your prompt twice.
API-key sign-in is refused. Makoda never falls back to paid API usage.
Every integration gets its own token. Revoke one and it stops instantly.
See every job, its model, timing and outcome in the app.
Why we built it
We build WeFX, which turns a product URL into a launch film. Every test run of its pipeline was spending real API money, while the Codex plan we already paid for sat idle.
So we built a small router: our dev builds call Makoda, Makoda calls Codex, and production keeps its real API. Makoda is that tool, cleaned up and free for every developer with the same problem.
FAQ
Yes. The app is free to download and use.
Yes. Requests run through your own Codex CLI and count against your ChatGPT plan's normal limits. Each request also carries Codex's own instructions, so even a short prompt uses a few thousand tokens.
No. Makoda is for local development and testing on your own Mac. Keep your real API provider for production.
From your app to Makoda on your Mac, then through Codex to OpenAI, exactly as if you used Codex yourself. Makoda's servers never see prompts or results.
Codex on Apple silicon Macs comes first. Other providers will be added only where their terms allow it. Windows comes after the Mac app is solid.
The beta is not yet notarized by Apple. Open it once, then go to System Settings, Privacy and Security, and click Open Anyway. Later updates install inside the app.
